NCE upn a time there was a by- Just like me.

He had t stay in bed in the mrning until seven"clck until his family was ready t get up.

S did I.

As he was always awake lng befre this time, he used t lie there and think abut all srtsf curius things.

S did I.

ne thing he used t wnder was this:

What wuld the wrld be like if there were- N fathers and mthers,N uncles and aunts,N cusinsrther children t play with,N peple at all, except himself in the whle wrld! Perhaps yu have wndered the same thing.

S did I.

At last he used t get s lnely, just frm thinking hw dreadful such a wrld wuld be, that he culd stand it n lnger and wuld run t his parents" rm and jump int bed by their side just t get this terrible thughtutf his mind.

S did I-fr I was the by.

Well, there was a time lng, lng, lng ag when there were n menr wmenr children, N PEPLEf any kind, in the whle wrld.f curse there were n huses, fr there was nne t build themr t live in them, n twnsr cities-nthing that peple make. There were just animals- mastdns and dinsaurs, birds and butterflies, frgs and snakes, turtles and fish. Can yu thinkf such a wrld as that?

Then,

lng, lng, lng,

befre that, there was a time when there were N PEPLE, and N ANIMALSf any srt in the whle wrld; there were just grwing plants. Can yu thinkf such a wrld as that?

Then,

lng, lng, lng, lng, lng, lng,

befre that, there was a time when there were N PEPLE, N ANIMALS, N PLANTS, in the whle wrld; there was just bare rck and water everywhere. Can yu thinkf such a wrld as that?

Then,

lng, lng, lng,

lng, lng, lng-yu might keepn saying-"lng, lng, lng," all day, and tmrrw, and allnext week, and next mnth, and next year, and it wuldnt be lng enugh-befre this, there was a time when there was N WRLD AT ALL!

N wrld at all!nly the stars, and Gd, wh made the stars.

Nw, real stars are nt things with pints like thse in the crnerf a flagr the gldnes yu putn a Christmas tree. The real stars in the sky have n pints. They are huge burning ballsf fire-ballsf fire. Each star, hwever, is s huge that there is nthing in the wrld nw anywhere nearly as big.ne little bit,ne little scrapf a star is bigger thanur whle wrld-thanur whle wrld.

nef these stars isur sun-yes,ur sun. Thether stars wuld lk the same as the sun if we culd get as clse t them. But at that time, s lng, lng ag,ur sun was nt just a big, rund, white, ht ball as we see it in the sky tday. It was then mre like the firewrks yu may have seenn the Furthf July. It was whirling and sputtering and thrwingff sparks.

nef these sparks, which the sun threw farff, gt cl just as a spark frm a crackling lg in a fireplace gets cl, and this cledff sparkwas-What d yu suppse? See if yu can guess-It wasur wrld!-yes, the wrldn which we nw live.

The sun sputtering and thrwingff sparks太阳劈啪作响,喷射出点点火星At first, hwever,ur wrld,r Earth, was nthing but a ballf rck. Thisballf rck was wrapped arund with steam, like a heavy fg.

Then the steam turned t rain, and it rainedn the wrld,a n da n da n di ti ti trrraaaiii

until it had filled up the hllws and made enrmusly big puddles. These puddles were theceans. The dry places were bare rck.

Then, after this, came the first living things-tiny plants that yu culdnly have seen under a micrscpe. At first they grewnly in the water, then alng the water"s edge, thenutn the rck.

Then dirt,r sil, as peple call it, frmed allver the rck and made the rck int land, and the plants grew larger and spread fartherver the land.

Then, after this, came the first tiny animals in the water. They were wee specks t small, like the first plants, t be seen withut the helpf a micrscpe.

Then, after this, in the water came larger animals like Jellyfish and clams and hrseshe crabs.

Then, after this, came Insects, sme that live in the water, smen the water, smen the land, like cckraches, and sme in the air.

Then, after this, came Fish that livenly in the water.

Then, after this, came animals like frgs called Amphibians that live in the water and alsn the land.

Then, after this, came Reptiles, like snakes, turtles, lizards, and huge dinsaurs.
