There is no overnight success in this world. All successes are based on long-term preparation and painstaking. If you would go up high，then use your own legs！Do not let yourselves carried aloft；do not seat yourselves on other people's backs and heads.
The heights great men reached and kept
Were not attained by a sudden flight；

Were toiling upward in the night.

世上本没有什么“一夜成名”的事，成功都是建立在长期的储备和艰苦的奋斗基础之上的。如果你想走到高处，就要使用自己的两条腿！不要让别人把你抬到高处；不要坐在别人的背上和头上。
伟人所达到和保持的高度，
绝非靠一步登天一蹴而就；
当他们的同伴正在酣睡时，
他们正通宵达旦孜孜以求。

文中“toiling upward in the night”指的是熬夜工作的意思。熬夜除了stay up之外，pull an all-nighter 也很常用，以前还曾学过的一个短语burn the midnight oil。再引申下：Burn the midnight oil的意思是挑灯夜读，也就是我们平常所说的熬夜，开夜车。这个用法可以追溯到人们最初开始使用油灯的时候。如果在午夜时分燃烧灯油，那也就意味着熬夜苦读了。比如：I have a big test tomorrow morning，so I plan to burn the midnight oil tonight.（明天我有一个重要的考试，所以我计划挑灯夜读了。）不过熬夜对身体不好，所以我们还是不要经常“burn the midnight oil”。
