Students can pick from a variety of university accommodations, including on campus residence halls or chalets, or rooms in flats on or off campus, all of which are without board. There are approximately 2,300 residential places on campus and the centrally situated facilities encourage a strong community feel. Students have much to occupy their time outside of the classroom. Student life takes many different shapes through student clubs, outstanding sport facilities, on campus stores, bars, cafes, and other social facilities. Robert Gordon, born 1668 in Aberdeen, was the only son of Arthur Gordon, an Edinburgh advocateadvocate: n.提倡者 father Robert Gordon of Straloch was the noted cartographercartographer: n.地图制作者, 制图师 who put Scotland on the map in Blaeu,s Atlas in 1654. When his father died in 1680, Robert Gordon inherited over £1000-a substantial sum for a twelve year old. Four years later he was elected a Burgess of Guild, which enabled him to trade as a merchant in the city. After graduating from Marischal College in 1689, he set off for the Continent from the family home near the Castlegate. He travelled extensively before establishing a business as a merchant trader in DanzigDanzig: 但泽(波兰北部港市格但斯克) in the Baltic. He was in good company as it was said that there were around 40,000 Scots working in Poland.

Little is known about his life abroad.
