王维（701～761），字摩诘，蒲州（今山西省永济）人，唐代诗人。开元九年进士。曾一度奉使出塞，此外，大部分时间在朝任职，官至尚书右丞。有《王右丞集》。
王维的名和字都取自《维摩诘经》中的维摩诘居士，他一生过着亦官亦隐亦居士的生活。
王维在诗歌上的成就是多方面的，无论边塞山水诗，无论律诗绝句等都有流传人口的佳篇。他的边塞诗多能以慷慨激昂的情调，抒发将士为保卫疆土而献身的英雄气概。他的山水诗，继承了谢灵运的传统，却没有谢的晦涩堆砌的缺点，变化多彩，具有不同的风格与情调，描写了多种多样的自然景色，达到了很高的造诣。

绛帻鸡人报晓筹，尚衣方进翠云裘。
九天阊阖开宫殿，万国衣冠拜冕旒。
日色才临仙掌动，香烟欲傍衮龙浮。
朝罢须裁五色诏，佩声归到凤池头。

The red-capped Cock-Man has just announced morning；
The Keeper of the Robes brings Jade-Cloud Furs；
Heaven’s nine doors reveal the palace and its courtyards；
And the coats of many countries bow to the Pearl Crown.
Sunshine has entered the giants’carven palms；
Incense wreathes the Dragon Robe：
The audience adjourns—and the five—coloured edict

积雨空林烟火迟，蒸藜炊黍饷东缁。

To eat split dewy sunflower-seeds under a bough of pine，
To yield the post of honour to any boor at all...
Why should I frighten sea gulls，even with a thought？
