第21章 Guangxi Buluotuo Scenic Mango Orchard

The Guangxi Buluotuo Scenic Mango Orchard is locatedin Baiyu Village in Baiyu Town of TianyangCounty,about 5 kilometers from the city districtof the county.National highway Route 324 runs by theentrance to the scenic area and the Nanning-KunmingRailway passes along the area,so transportation is nevera problem.The main theme of the scenic area is the mangoes,but the rural sightseeing tour combines mango production,application of modern agricultural techniques,rural sightseeing and rest and recreation.The orchard helps increase scientific knowledge among the masses,raises the incomes of the local people as well as meetsa wide range of consumer demands.In July 2005,theorchard was named as a national model for agriculturaltourism and was approved as an autonomous zone.

In 1985 Tianyang County made the strategic decisionto set up the Youjiang Valley Mango Product ProductionBase and concentrate on development of mangoproduction as a key industry in reviving the economyof Tianyang County and helping the local people throwoff poverty.The local government formulated a developmentplan for linking plots together,introduced favorablepolicies and developed a policy of relying on a combinationstate,collective and private ownership to stronglypromote development of mango production.The scenicorchard greatly benefits from government direction andthe bootstrap effect of state and collective participationin encouraging all local farmers to develop mango production.

Mango cultivation has now reached 130,000mu in Tianyang County.Increasing farmer incomes andmango production has become a way for local residents to throw off poverty and begin living better lives.In 1995Tianyang County became the largest mango producingcounty in the country,and in April of that year the Ministryof Agriculture named the county“China’s MangoVillage.”A mango variety produced in the county wonsilver medal(highest award that year)in its category atthe First China Agricultural Exhibition held in 1992 andgold medal at the second held in1995,and was called,“king of mangoes.”

The scenic orchard covers an area of 10,560 mu,including8,600 mu of mango cultivation and over 3,000 mu that hasbeen developed.The orchard has mango,longan and licheetrees,including 14 varieties of mangoes.Local specialtiesinclude fragrant mango,red-gold brilliant mango and kaitemango.The orchard is divided into three sections,XiangmangOrchard,Jinsui Orchard,and Guixiang Orchard,which feature food and beverage services,conference andholiday facilities,and rest and recreation opportunities.

The special style of the pile-supported structures of theZhuang minority among the hectares of fragrant orchardsagainst the reflection of the scenic area’s reservoir andfishing pond create a beautiful and picturesque pastoralscene.When the mango trees are in season,the hectaresof ripening mangoes attract great numbers of visitorsfrom all over the country and the rest of the world.Theorchard not only provides tourists with the opportunityto pick their own fragrant sweet mangoes and enjoy thebountiful harvest,but also gives them the chance to fish,enjoy a barbeque,and ride a horse in the scenic area.Themain activities and facilities for tourists include visitingthe main building and recreation center of the XiangmangOrchard,strolling through the hall of mango culture,touring the visitor photography zone,picking fruit in thespecial tourist harvest zone,visiting the main building ofJinsui Orchard,staying in the holiday cabins on the water,dining in the barbeque area,fishing in the fishing area,relaxingin the teahouse,enjoying the large swimming pooland water activities,playing on the tennis courts andminiature golf course and visiting the ethnic folk songplaza.
