Parting, Two Poems
Du Mu
I
She is beautiful, slender, a little more than thirteen,
Looking like cardamom at a spray’s tip in early spring.
Along Yangzhou’s ten-li way in vernal breeze, it’ll be seen,
All pearly screens rolled up, she’s among all the most charming.
II
Much tenderness, yet little affection it seems;
At farewell feast there isn’t a smile which with feelings beams.
Candles with wicks still will for separation mourn;
They will shed their tears for others till it is dawn.
