Sadness and Happiness

Tom: I have good news!

May: You look so happy! What’s the good news?

Tom: My wife is pregnant. I’ve been feeling really happy thinking about it these last two days.

May: Congratulations! You’re going to be a father.

Tom: But I won’t be as free as I am now.

May: Of course. Your responsibilities and obligations will increase.

Tom: Are you alright? You look not so happy. Is there something wrong?

May: I just broke up with my boyfriend. And you told me that you are going to be a father...

Tom: Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. I don’t mean to hurt you.

May: No, this is my fault. I mean, I am really happy for you.

Tom: I know, I know. It’s OK. I can’t believe that you broke up with him.

May: I found he’s dating with another girl.

Tom: He’s such a jerk. He doesn’t deserve your tears!

May: You are right! Let’s go out and have some fun! I am gonna forget him in a day.

Tom: Fine.

2 Desperate

Mary: Oh, my God. I can’t take it any more. Dean: What’s wrong, honey? Take it easy. Mary: I am tired of doing that boring job. I just repeat the same

thing everyday. It’s so terrible. Dean: Everybody does. But I think you can do something else for a

change. Mary: Sometimes I don’t know what the meaning of working is. Dean: But you did a good job. The manager is just being nice to you. Mary: That’s in the past. Maybe I need to go to my therapist for

help. Dean: Perhaps you’re just tired and you need a vacation. Mary: I was full of ambitions before. But now I have no aim for my

career and even my life. Dean: Maybe you should walk around to enrich knowledge and

make your life exciting. Mary: That sounds interesting. But I don’t know how to do that. Dean: How about a long vacation for a trip? Mary: A trip? That must be costly. Dean: But it’s worth it. Maybe it can get you into a good mood and

also help you learn something to use for the future. Mary: OK. Let’s have a try. Dean: OK.
