2. “Exercise is too difficult and painful.”

Consider “no pain, no gain” the old fashioned way ofthinking about exercise. Exercise doesn't have to hurt to beincredibly effective. You don't have to push yourself to thelimit to get results. You can build your strength and fitness bywalking, swimming, even playing golf or cleaning the house.

3. “I'm too tired to exercise.”

If you're feeling tired, try taking a brisk walk or dancingto your favorite music and see how much better you feelafterwards.

4.“I'm too old to start exercising,” “Im too fat,” or“My health isn't good enough.”

It's never too late to start building your strength andphysical fitness, even if you're a senior or a self-confessedcouch potato who has never exercised before. And exerciseis a proven treatment for many diseases-from diabetes toarthritis. Very few health or weight problems make exercise outof the question, so talk to your doctor about a safe routine foryou.

5. “Exercise is boring.”

Sure, pounding on a treadmill for an hour may not beeveryone's idea of a good time. But not all exercise has to beboring. Everyone can find a physical activity they enjoy. Tryplaying ping-pong (table tennis) or football with your friends.

Tina: I tried that. They don't have anything now. So what can I do?

Harry: Well, since you're a foreign student, it's hard. That's because it'sactually illegal for you to work in America.

Tina: I know that. And I know I have the right to work for the university.

That's legal. But they don't have a job for me. And it's illegal for me toget a job elsewhere.

Harry: Anyway, there must be some solution. You know there are manypeople working illegally in New York.

Tina: But I need a pretty decent job. I need to make enough money to paymy rent at least.
