Natural Scenery(4)

If you are looking for shallow and clean waters, make sure to visit the beaches of Panagitsa at the Faros area, as well as the Mikro and Megalo Marathona. The prehistoric city of Aegina stretches on the hill of Kolona. The first inhabitants settled there circa 3000 B.C. and abandoned the settlement 2000 years later. The last settlement was built at the boundaries boundary n.边界, 分界线 of the present city and was fortified with walls. Aegina,s most tourist area is Agia Marina, which is 13km east of the port. It is worth visiting the temple of Aphea near the mountainous village of Mesagros, as well as Paleochora and Mystras, where the city used to be from 800 until 1800 A.D.. Today, the only things still standing are the remains of the medieval castle, a few destroyed houses and only 36 of the 565 Byzantine churches that had been built. In Mystras you can also visit the monastery of Agios Nektarios, patron saint patron saint n.保护圣徒, 守护神 of the island.

Other picturesque villages on Aegina are Perdika and Souvala. In fact, the latter is famous for the therapeutic therapeutic adj. 治疗剂, 治疗学家 qualities of its sources. Lastly, if you are touring Hora, it is worth visiting the Government House, where the first government of Greece was housed after the Turkish domination, and admire its rich library and the important historical historical adj. Make sure to pay a visit to the Kapodistrian Orphanage and the Metropolitan Church, where Ioannis Kapodistrias was sworn in first governor of liberated Greece. Aegina is linked throughout the year to the port of Piraeus with regular routes. What is more, ferryboats or flying dolphins dolphin n.海豚 link the island to Angistri, Methana, the other Argosaronic islands, Epidavros, Ermioni, Porto Cheli, Tolo, Nafplio, Leonidio, Monemvasia and Neapoli.

The temple that remains was originally dedicated to Aphaia, a local goddess who shares some characteristics with Artemis. Artemis Herself is closely associated associated adj.联合的, 关联的 with Hekate, especially in Classical and later literature. According to the Theogony of Hesiod, Hekate and Artemis are close cousins (their mothers, Asteria and Leto, are sisters). Von Rudloff explore the links between Hekate and Artemis further in his book.

The cult of Aphaia was established very early, possibly in the beginning of the 2nd millennium B.C.E. Aphaia was later assimilated by Athena.

There are no clear evidence of Hekate worship here, but hints remain. The sanctuary flourished flourish vi. 茂盛, 兴旺, 华饰, 繁荣 in the Archaic period, when Hekate was still widely worshipped. Figurines of pregnant women dating from the prehistoric period were found there, which might suggest a link to Hekate as Goddess of Childbirth, a role suggested by Hesiod (c.700 B.C.E.) and referred to in Classical times.

More recent historic monuments of the island can be seen in its Government House when Egina was the first capital of modern Greece. The island is blessed with a good road network and its frequent connections by ferry or hydrofoil to the mainland, make it a popular island for quick, short stops. Local travel on the island is also facilitated by numerous taxis and bus service but also horsedrawn carriage, for the romantic at heart!

Other areas of interest is Agia Marina, which has the largest beaches, the lovely fishing village of Perdika and of course a visit must be made to the monastery where the patron Saint of the island is buried - St. Nekterios. Egina is also very wellknown for its pistachio pistachio n.[植]阿月浑子树, 阿月浑子果实, 淡黄绿色 trees which abound on the island and considered to be the best in the world.

The Hydra Island

Hydra is one of the Saronic Islands of Greece in the Aegean Sea between the Saronic Gulf and the Argolic Gulf. It is separated from the Peloponnese by a narrow strait called on some maps “the Hydra Gulf”. It is also a municipality municipality n.市政当局, 自治市 and was one of the few provinces in Greece that have only two municipalities and fewer than five communes. Ferries arrive regularly from Piraeus and Napflion on the Peloponnese Peloponnese No motor vehicles are allowed on this island, so the public transportation is provided by taxidonkeys. The inhabited area is so compact that most people walk everywhere. There is one main town, known simply as “Hydra port”. It consists of a crescentshaped harbor harbor n.海港, around which is a strand of commercial establishments (restaurants, shops, markets, and galleries) catering catering 公共饮食业 给养 to tourists and locals (called Hydriots). The town which is the centre of the whole island, is built amphitheatrically, around the port.
