Hans comes to Gretel. “Good day， Gretel.”“Good day， Hans.”“What do you bring that is good.”“I bring nothing， I want to have something given me.”Gretel presents Hans with a needleneedle n.针. Hans says， “Goodbye， Gretel.”“Goodbye， Hans.”
汉斯来到格莱特家。“你好，格莱特！”“你好，汉斯！带什么好东西来了？”“什么也没带来。请给我点什么吧。”格莱特送给汉斯一根针。汉斯说：“再见，格莱特！”“再见，汉斯！”
Hans takes the needle， sticks it into a haycart， and follows the cart home. “Good evening， mother.”“Good evening， Hans. Where have you been？” “With Gretel.” “What did you take her？”“Took her nothing， had something given me.”“What did Gretel give you？”“Gave me a needle.”“Where is the needle， Hans？” “Stuck it in the haycart.”“That was ill done， Hans. You should have stuck the needle in your sleeve.”“Never mind， Ill do better next time.”
汉斯接过针，把它插进干草车中，跟着车回到家。“晚上好，妈妈！”“晚上好，汉斯！你上哪儿去了？”“我上格莱特家去了。” “你带给她了什么？”“我什么也没带给她，她送了东西给我。”“格莱特送给你什么了？”“送给我一根针。”“你把针放在哪儿了，汉斯？”“放在干草车里了。”“你办得真傻，汉斯，应该把针插在衣袖上！”“没关系，下次一定办好。”

Hans takes the goat， ties its legs， and puts it in his pocket. When he gets home it is suffocatedsuffocate vi.被闷死， 窒息， 受阻. “Good evening， mother.”“Good evening， Hans. Where have you been？” “With Gretel.” “What did you take her？”“Took nothing， she gave me something.”“What did Gretel give you？”“She gave me a goat.”“Where is the goat， Hans？”“Put it in my pocket.”“That was ill done， Hans， you should have put a rope round the goats neck.”“Never mind， will do better next time.”
