The Eastern Suburbs

The Eastern Suburbs

Wei Yingwu

Confined to my office all the year round,

Now at fresh dawn for the wild skirts I’m bound.

Willow trees sway in the breezes gentle,

And green hills wash away my cares mental.

’Gainst the grove I rest myself at my ease;

Then ’long the gully to walk I don’t cease.

Misty drizzles o’erwhelm the fragrant plain;

Where come thrushes’ trills that me entertain?

My heart’s desire for peace is often checked,

For by public affairs I am still becked.

Someday later I’ll put up my cot here

And like Tao may lead a hermit’s life sheer.
