True Treasure

by Leigha Dickens

True treasure is not in pirate ships

In chests of silver and gold.

True treasure isn’t ruby rings

And jewels from long ago.

You don’t need to use a treasure map

And find chests beneath the sea.

True treasure is simply the love,

And joy found in you and me.

If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking

Emily Dickinson

If I can stop one heart from breaking

I shall not live in vain;

If I can ease one life the aching

Or help one fainting robin

Onto his nest again,

I shall not live in vain.

我就没有虚度此生;

The Long Voyage

Malcolm Cowley

Not that the pines were darker there,

Nor mid-May dogwood brighter there,

Nor swifts more swift in summer air;

It was my own country;

Having its thunderclap of spring,

Its long midsummer ripening,

Its corn hoar-stiff at harvesting,

Almost like any country.

Yet being mine;its face,its speech,

Its hills bent low within my reach,

Its river birch and upland beech

Were mine,of my own country.

Now the dark waters at the bow

Fold back,like earth against the plow;

And the blooming mountain flowers

At home,in my own country.

To Teach

by Tracey Smith Bradley

To teach is to touch a life forever...

To teach is to see a struggling student smile...

To teach is to hear a child read a story...

To teach is to know it may take a while.

To teach is to give enough of yourself...

To a child who needs your time and care...

To teach is to share your world with others...

So their knowledge will always be there.

To teach is something you’ll have forever...

It will never cease or die...

For a teacher remembers each child, each face...

And holds each one dearly inside.

And though at times you may get tired...

And wonder it is all worth the strain...

You’ll remember one child who succeeded with your help...

And you know that you would do it all over again.

Friendship Is Like the Breeze

by Terri Fanning

Friendship is like the breeze,

You can’t hold it,

Smell it,

Taste it,

Or know when it’s coming,

But you can always feel it,

And you’ll always know it’s there,

It may come and then go,

But you can know it’ll always be back.

When We Two Parted

by George Gordon Byron

When we two parted

In silence and tears,

Half broken-hearted

To sever for years,

Pale grew your cheek and cold,

Colder your kiss;

Truly that hour foretold

Sorrow to this!

The dew of the morning

Sunk chill on my brow-

It felt like the warning

Of what I feel now.

Thy vows are all broken,

And light is your fame:

I hear your name spoken,

And share in its shame.

They name thee before me,

A knell to mine ear;
